It is an honest argument, not a straw-man, at all, hand drawn diagrams are fast and never a mere doodle.

First of all, paper and pencil, is not what it seems.

We make fun of people who do quantum physics, with little more than pen, paper, and strong coffee.

But there is nothing funny about it, we are navigators, a pencil and a nice clean piece of paper will multiply our abilities.

And hand drawn diagrams are equally useful, when you are learning and when you are pushing boundaries.

So as long as your notebooks are nice, and pencil sharp, learning programming will be fast.

And if you you splurge not on sketching but the thicker drawing paper, and then use a one sided, dual tipped marker, it will become art.


Older programmers get used to their litter machines on paper, and they don’t want to give them up.

They become good at mapping massive systems, and breaking them down, to rebuild them as more powerful.

Without touching the keyboard, giving that up, is highly questionable.

And it may not be possible for a program that requires multiple clicks, like that shutdown menu that asks if you want to sleep or shut down.


And paper will be faster, and more pleasant.

Now here I must say, that a powerful Visual Programming Language, eliminates the programming step, even if it takes some practice at first.


I don’t think messing with a person’s internal art, is good at all, it won’t make them better, perhaps ever.


My discovery of awaiting all pipes to submit data, in other words, waiting on dry pipes.

Is one strong example, that will give a professional pause, because they can map put an entire organization or flow.

And wait for all the HR ladies, and departments, or downloads and AI responses to finish, before the program continues.

It takes a moment to see this as a Flow Control alternative, but once you see some lines in green and others in gray.

Your diagrams, become stuck in time.

Especially on a Friday afternoon when searching for a bug, you can see what is not working, by just looking for a gray lines.

When I saw the tragedy of Marble Diagrams, I added animated marbles to my User Interface tests.

I am experimenting with slowing down or pausing time in my language, and seeing the marbles come to a crawl for debugging will give everyone pause.

To be clear, all the magnificent things about Functional Reactive Programming, become greatly simplified under a Visual Programming Language.

So much so, that many complex functions can be reduced to a checkbox, such is the case with combineLatest it is a checkbox of whether or not to await pipes.


I am one of the people who will not give up diagrams, they just make me so much smarted, it would be shameful.

But, I entertain myself by refining small puzzles, such as refining signals.

My research very strongly indicates that Signal Dependencies are dumb, 32 lines of code signal is perfect without untangling dependencies my mangling context.

But as I sat down today to integrate with browser storage, and web extension storage, by way of adapters and an intermediate table.

I was just manipulating visual programming concepts, Diagram or not in 10 years, I will not remember what I was doing in there.

If I wrote this out as a visual program, even in 50 years, I would be able to watch it all come to life on the screen like a movie.

And have no problems, understanding the entire symphony of the thing.
